Blizzard Entertainment has released the full Overwatch x YOASOBI collaboration trailer, revealing a colourful crossover built around music, storytelling and a new collection of hero skins.
The limited-time event begins on June 30, bringing new cosmetics for Kiriko, Genji, Hanzo, Mizuki, Juno and Anran. The collaboration also features “Orion,” an original song created by Japanese pop duo YOASOBI specifically for Overwatch.
Rather than presenting the event as another straightforward cosmetic release, the trailer connects the new skins to Overwatch’s Japanese characters, the Neon Junction map and an ongoing story involving the Shimada brothers, Kiriko and the Hashimoto clan.
Overwatch X Yoasobi Trailer Introduces Six Collaboration Heroes
The new Overwatch x YOASOBI trailer brings together six heroes:
- Kiriko
- Genji
- Hanzo
- Mizuki
- Juno
- Anran
Kiriko, Genji and Hanzo remain at the centre of the collaboration because of their shared history and their connection to the accompanying story.
Mizuki also fits naturally into the lineup due to his ties to Japan and the Hashimoto clan. Juno and Anran help broaden the event beyond the original three characters, giving the collection a larger and more varied set of designs.
The overall visual direction combines Overwatch’s futuristic style with bright J-pop fashion, neon lighting and references to modern Tokyo nightlife. It gives the crossover a more consistent identity than simply placing unrelated costumes on popular heroes.

Kiriko Takes Centre Stage In The Collaboration
Kiriko is once again one of the main faces of an Overwatch crossover. Her YOASOBI skin gives her a futuristic idol-inspired appearance, with neon details, colourful accessories and a design that fits naturally beside the collaboration’s music-video presentation.
Her outfit includes a cropped top, shorts, fingerless gloves and translucent goggles. Her hairstyle and kunai have also been redesigned to match the event’s brighter visual style.

Kiriko’s combination of traditional Japanese influences and modern street fashion makes her an obvious choice for the collaboration. However, she is not simply included because of her popularity. The event’s story focuses heavily on her connection to Genji and Hanzo, making her central to both the cosmetic lineup and the animated music video.
Genji And Hanzo Return To Their Shared History
The collaboration places a strong focus on the complicated relationship between Genji and Hanzo.
Both brothers have spent much of Overwatch’s story dealing with the collapse of the Shimada clan and the damage caused by their past. Kiriko grew up around them and trained alongside them, giving the three characters a connection that goes beyond their shared Japanese background.
The trailer uses that history to present them as three people who have taken very different paths but remain connected.
This relationship also inspired the name of YOASOBI’s new song. “Orion” refers to Orion’s Belt, the recognisable line of three stars within the constellation. The three stars are used as a metaphor for Kiriko, Genji and Hanzo, who remain separated but linked by their shared history.
It is a simple idea, but it gives the collaboration a stronger emotional foundation than most cosmetic events.
Yoasobi Created An Original Overwatch Song
The main attraction outside the skins is “Orion,” a new song written and performed by YOASOBI. YOASOBI is known for creating music based on stories, making the duo a strong fit for a collaboration that Blizzard wants to connect directly to Overwatch lore.
The track was developed with the futuristic atmosphere of Neon Junction in mind. Its sound blends drum and bass production with traditional koto elements and YOASOBI’s recognisable J-pop style.

That mixture reflects the visual design of the event. Overwatch’s Japanese locations frequently combine shrines, family traditions and historic architecture with robotics, holograms and neon city streets. “Orion” uses a similar contrast by bringing traditional instrumentation into a modern electronic track.
The result makes the music feel specifically designed for Overwatch rather than added to the event after the skins were completed.
The Animated Video Adapts The Fall Of A Sparrow
The Overwatch x YOASOBI animated music video is connected to “The Fall of a Sparrow,” a short story written by E.C. Myers. The story follows Genji as he travels to Tokyo to investigate the Hashimoto clan. He discovers that the criminal organisation is using weapons with technology that appears similar to his own blade.
During the mission, Genji remembers his younger years with Hanzo and Kiriko. The investigation eventually leads to a confrontation with the Hashimoto, followed by Genji allowing himself to be captured so that he can learn more about the organisation’s plans.

The collaboration trailer and animated video use these events as their narrative foundation. Scenes involving the three characters during their younger years help reinforce the meaning behind “Orion.” The action then shifts towards their present-day conflict and the threat created by the Hashimoto.
A-1 Pictures produced the animated music video, giving the collaboration a polished anime-inspired presentation suited to YOASOBI’s music.
Mizuki’s Inclusion Strengthens The Hashimoto Connection
Mizuki’s place in the collaboration is especially interesting because he is directly connected to the wider Japanese storyline. While Kiriko, Genji and Hanzo represent the emotional core of the event, Mizuki helps connect their history to the current conflict involving the Hashimoto.
His inclusion makes the collection feel more closely tied to the direction of Overwatch’s ongoing narrative. The short story ends by introducing a mysterious Hashimoto leader with a mechanical quality to her voice. This character appears to hold considerable power within the organisation and may have a larger role in the game’s future.
The YOASOBI event does not resolve that storyline, but it gives players another piece of the conflict while introducing cosmetics inspired by the characters involved.
Juno And Anran Expand The Collaboration Lineup
Juno and Anran are less directly connected to the Shimada storyline, but their inclusion gives the crossover more variety.
Both characters suit the event’s modern, colourful and energetic presentation. Their designs help move the collaboration beyond traditional ninja imagery and towards the broader neon-pop theme shown throughout the trailer.
Including six heroes also gives the event a larger scale. Previous Overwatch music collaborations have shown that Blizzard is willing to build entire cosmetic collections around a performer rather than limiting the crossover to one featured skin. The YOASOBI event follows that approach while adding a stronger narrative element.
More Than Another Overwatch Skin Collaboration
The most interesting part of the Overwatch x YOASOBI event is the way it combines several forms of content. The collaboration includes:
- Six featured heroes
- New limited-time skins
- An original YOASOBI song
- An animated music video
- A dedicated Overwatch short story
- Connections to Neon Junction and the Hashimoto storyline
This makes it feel closer to a small multimedia event than a normal shop update. Players interested only in cosmetics still receive a full collection of new skins. Meanwhile, fans of Overwatch’s world and characters receive additional material exploring Genji, Hanzo and Kiriko.
The event also gives YOASOBI enough room to contribute something original rather than simply licensing one of the duo’s existing songs.
When Does The Overwatch X Yoasobi Collaboration Begin?
The Overwatch x YOASOBI collaboration begins on June 30, 2026. (*Due to regional timing, the event begins on July 1 in Japan.)
The skins and other collaboration cosmetics will be available for a limited time, although Blizzard has not confirmed when the collection will leave the in-game shop. Players interested in the cosmetics should check the individual bundles and any larger collection packages once the event becomes available.
The Overwatch X Yoasobi Collaboration Feels Surprisingly Complete
Overwatch has featured many crossover skins, but the YOASOBI collaboration stands out because its music and cosmetics are supported by an actual story. “Orion” gives the event its own musical identity, while the relationship between Kiriko, Genji and Hanzo gives the animated video an emotional centre.
The addition of Mizuki, Juno and Anran also prevents the lineup from feeling too limited. Kiriko will probably receive most of the attention, but the event appears to offer a strong selection across several heroes rather than relying entirely on one headline skin.
The Overwatch x YOASOBI collaboration launches on June 30 with new skins, the original song “Orion” and an animated music video based on “The Fall of a Sparrow.”
