Netflix has released a new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 trailer, giving us our clearest look yet at the next story set in Night City. The new teaser introduces four central characters, shows off Studio Trigger’s familiar high-energy animation and confirms that the series will arrive on Netflix in fall 2026.
Rather than continuing David Martinez’s story, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will follow an entirely new crew. The season is being positioned as a standalone 10-episode story, meaning viewers will not necessarily need to watch the first season before starting it.
However, based on what the trailer shows, the new series appears ready to carry forward the violence, emotional damage and visual chaos that made the original anime so memorable.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Returns To Night City
The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 trailer wastes very little time returning us to the most dangerous corners of Night City. The footage moves quickly between gunfights, explosions, cybernetic enhancements and scenes of extreme violence. Bodies are torn apart, vehicles crash and characters are pushed into situations that already look far beyond their control.
Studio Trigger’s animation once again gives every movement an exaggerated sense of speed and impact. The action is colourful, stylish and deliberately overwhelming, but there are also quieter shots suggesting that the story will focus on more than another group of mercenaries taking dangerous jobs.
The first season worked because its action was supported by a deeply personal tragedy. This trailer suggests the second season understands that simply being louder and bloodier will not be enough.
Meet The New Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Characters
The new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 crew consists of Weak Kingsley, D, Roman Carax and Talia Yang. Each character appears to represent a different part of Night City and its surrounding world.
Weak Kingsley
Weak Kingsley is a veteran edgerunner who once carried the nickname “King.” He now lives in the shadow of his former reputation and has been forced to survive without the cyberware that previously defined him. His story appears to focus on an ageing legend trying to find a new purpose in a world that has already moved on.
This immediately makes Weak one of the most interesting members of the new cast. Cyberpunk stories often focus on young characters who believe they are strong enough to survive Night City. Weak offers a different perspective: someone who has already survived, lost what made him powerful and now has to decide what remains.
D
D is a netrunner connected to the Snake Nation nomads. He is hunting the person responsible for destroying his clan, placing revenge at the centre of his story. His search reportedly brings him dangerously close to corporate secrets that were never meant to be uncovered.
The trailer presents D as one of the crew’s most direct and dangerous members. He appears comfortable with violence and seems prepared to destroy anyone standing between him and his target. His storyline may also provide the series with its strongest connection to the corporations and wider conspiracies controlling Night City.
Roman Carax
Roman Carax is a young filmmaker obsessed with finding real stories in a city that has abandoned traditional cinema in favour of braindances.
While the other characters participate directly in the violence, Roman is frequently shown recording what happens around him. He appears to serve as an observer, documenting the lives of people who would normally disappear without leaving anything behind.
This could make Roman the emotional centre of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The official premise asks how far someone must go to make their story matter in a city blinded by spectacle. Roman’s camera appears to be directly connected to that question.
His role also gives the series an opportunity to examine the difference between experiencing tragedy and turning that tragedy into entertainment.
Talia Yang
Talia Yang was raised within the corporate world but is now connected to the Maelstrom gang. Her background places her between two sides of Night City that are violent in very different ways. Corporations hide their cruelty behind wealth and authority, while Maelstrom embraces cybernetic modification and open brutality.
The trailer gives Talia a striking presence, but her exact role within the group remains unclear. She may have rejected the corporate life she was raised in, or she could still be carrying secrets and loyalties that eventually place the crew in danger. Either way, she appears to represent the uneasy relationship between corporate privilege, chrome and violence.
A Standalone Story, Rather Than David’s Continuation
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is not expected to undo the ending of the first season. David’s story is over, and the new season will instead explore another group of people trying to survive Night City. The anthology-style approach is probably the right decision.
The original series gave David, Lucy, Rebecca and the rest of the crew a complete story. Bringing them back purely because they became popular could reduce the impact of what happened.
A new cast also allows Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red to explore different parts of the Cyberpunk universe without having to recreate the same character dynamics. The challenge will be making audiences care about this new crew as much as they cared about David’s group.
The first season did not become successful because of its violence alone. It worked because the characters felt like a damaged family, making every victory, argument and death matter. The second season needs to establish that same emotional connection while still developing its own identity.
The Trailer Suggests A Story About Violence As Entertainment
One of the most interesting ideas introduced by the trailer is the relationship between violence, storytelling and spectacle.
Night City has always turned suffering into something people consume. Corporations sell dreams, braindance package experiences, and mercenaries build reputations through increasingly destructive acts.
Roman recording the crew’s experiences makes that theme more direct. He is not simply witnessing Night City’s violence. He may be deciding how that violence is framed, remembered and shared with others.
This creates several uncomfortable questions. Is Roman preserving the truth, exploiting the people around him or doing both at the same time? Will his desire for an authentic story push the crew towards greater risks? Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 appears interested in what happens when someone becomes more concerned with documenting a moment than surviving it.
Studio Trigger Is Pushing The Violence Even Further
The new footage is considerably more graphic than a typical promotional teaser. There are rapid flashes of cyberpsychosis, gunfire, dismemberment and large-scale destruction. The trailer makes it clear that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will not soften Night City’s brutality.
At the same time, the violence still carries Studio Trigger’s distinctive visual identity. Colours change aggressively, characters distort during movement and action scenes shift between detailed animation and highly stylised imagery. Even the most disturbing moments are presented with a level of energy that makes them difficult to look away from.
Kai Ikarashi is directing the new series after working on the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, including its acclaimed sixth episode. That episode marked a major turning point for the first season, combining emotional collapse with some of its most memorable animation. Giving Ikarashi control of the full second season suggests that Netflix, CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger want to build an entire story around that same intensity.
Returning Members Of The Creative Team
Although Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has a new cast and director, several important members of the original production remain involved. Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner, story writer and producer. Ichigo Kanno serves as lead character designer, while Masahiko Otsuka is involved with the screenplay, and Tsuneo Imahori is composing the music.
The returning team should help the series maintain a consistent connection to the original anime, even as it introduces new themes and characters. The trailer certainly feels like Edgerunners, but it does not look like it is trying to repeat David and Lucy’s exact journey.

The new characters still have a lot to prove. David, Lucy and Rebecca became some of the most recognisable characters in the wider Cyberpunk franchise, and replacing that emotional connection will not be easy.
