Kakao Entertainment confirmed that a live-action Korean drama adaptation of the Solo Leveling webcomic is currently in development. The company’s media division is actively involved in the drama’s planning, development, and scriptwriting.
Based on the web novel and WEBTOON by writer Chugong and the late artist DUBU (REDICE Studio), Solo Leveling follows the story of Sung Jinwoo, a notoriously weak hunter who finds himself in a seemingly endless struggle for survival.
One day, after narrowly surviving an overwhelmingly powerful double dungeon that nearly wipes out his entire party, a mysterious program called the System chooses him as its sole player and in turn, gives him the unique ability to level up in strength.
The series was first published as a web novel on KakaoPage in July 2016, and was later popularised as a webtoon published on the same platform in March 2018. It was then adapted into an anime television series produced by A-1 Pictures, with a second season premiering now. A role-playing game titled Solo Leveling: Arise was also released by Netmarble.
