The television anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s Daemons of the Shadow Realm has been renewed for a second season. The announcement came after the first season’s second cour concluded on Sunday, accompanied by a new announcement video and visual. A premiere date for the second season has not yet been revealed.
The series follows Yuru, a young man living in an isolated mountain village under the protection of two stone guardians. He lives peacefully while staying close to his twin sister Asa, who is confined to a cage while carrying out a mysterious duty for the village. As Yuru begins uncovering the truth behind Asa’s imprisonment, he discovers that his seemingly peaceful home holds secrets far beyond what he imagined.
Masahiro Andō directs the anime at Bones Film, alongside script supervisor Noboru Takagi, character designer Nobuhiro Arai, and composer Kenichiro Suehiro. Further details about the second season, including its release date and returning staff and cast, have yet to be announced.
Arakawa originally launched Daemons of the Shadow Realm, also known as Yomi no Tsugai, in Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine in December 2021. The manga is also published in English by Square Enix Manga & Books. The 13th compiled volume was released in Japan on July 10, 2026.
