Yesterday morning, we were treated to the first announcement of a new generation of VTubers (virtual YouTubers) primarily focused on English-speaking markets.
Dubbed “Hololive EN”, the group of VTubers are signed under Hololive, an agency for VTubers run by Cover Corporation, who have already opened up branches for other markets, including Indonesia.
The lore surrounding these VTubers is that they hail from a far-off world of legend: “hololive English -Myth-“. So without much further ado, let’s introduce the latest generation.
1. Mori Calliope
The Grim Reaper’s first apprentice. Because the world’s medical system has advanced so dramatically, she became a VTuber to collect souls. It seems that the lost souls vaporized by the wholesome relationships of VTubers flow through her as well. Despite her grim backstory, she’s a gentle-hearted girl whose sweet voice contradicts the morbid things she tends to say, as well as her hardcore vocals.
Also her first tweet is already spawning memes, so take from that what you will.
You’ll be able to catch Mori’s first ever stream on September 12th, 8pm JST (Japan Standard Time)
2. Takanashi Kiara
An idol whose dream is to become a fast food shop owner. She is a phoenix, NOT a chicken or turkey (though it hasn’t stopped the chicken memes from flooding in already). She works extremely hard, since she will be reborn from ashes anyway if she burns out.

3. Ninomae Ina’nis
One day, Ninomae picked up a strange book and started to gain the power of controlling tentacles. Now, tentacles are just a part of her ordinary life, though her girly mind still wants to get them dressed up and stay pretty. After gaining her powers, she started hearing ancient whispers and revelations. Thus, she began her VTuber activities to deliver random sanity checks on humanity while in the guise of an ordinary girl.
Fun fact: Ninomae was designed by Kuroboshi Kouhaku, the illustrator behind Fate Grand/Order’s Abigail Williams!
She will debut September 13th, 4AM JST.
4. Gawr Gura
A descendant of the Lost City of Atlantis, who swam to Earth while saying “It’s so boring down here LOLOLOL!” She brought her clothes (and her shark hat) to the human world because she really loves them. In her spare time, she enjoys talking to marine life.
Gawr will debut on September 13th, 6AM JST, and if her first tweet is indicative of anything, we’ll get some pretty random stuff from her.
5. Amelia Watson
She heard strange rumours surrounding Hololive online: talking foxes, magical squirrels, superhuman dogs, and more. Soon after beginning her investigation on Hololive, she decided to become an idol herself! She loves to pass her time by training her reflexes with FPS games and challenging herself with puzzle games. It’s elementary, right?
The wannabe Sherlock Holmes will make her debut September 13th, 8AM JST
