GSC Cinemas Brings Sports Anime Film ‘100 Meters’ To Malaysian Theatres

GSC Cinemas will screen 100 Meters (also known by its Japanese title Hyakuemu) starting this October 23. The film is an adaptation of a manga by Uoto (Orb: On the Movements of the Earth), directed by Kenji Iwaisawa (ON-GAKU: Our Sound) and featuring a theme song from J-rock band Official Hige Dandism.

100 Meters follows Togashi, a naturally gifted runner who effortlessly wins every 100-meter race. In sixth grade, he meets Komiya, a transfer student who is full of determination but lacks technique. Togashi offers to coach him, which gives Komiya a new purpose: to win no matter what. As the years pass, Togashi and Komiya meet again as rivals on the track, which reveals their true selves.

In an interview session with the film’s American co-producer GKIDS, director Kenji Iwaisawa described 100 Meters: “I feel that this film, which depicts men obsessed with running faster than anyone else, could be a work that resonates with audiences around the world, and I would like to bring you a special cinematic experience.”

GKIDS’ president David Jesteadt, who also serves as a producer on the film, also commented: “Director Iwaisawa has proven once again why sports has continued to be such an ideal lens to view and understand the human spirit. Even in something as simple a 100 meter race, the entire kaleidoscope of human emotion comes into play. I look forward to sharing this new sports classic with audiences soon.”
