Kojima Productions’ ‘Death Stranding’ Is Getting An Animated Film Spinoff

The world of Death Stranding is set to expand with a new adult animated film, written by Aaron Guzikowski of Raised by Wolves fame. Following in the footsteps of videogame-to-animation heavyweights like Arcane and Cyberpunk 2077, the film will not directly adapt the game, but instead tell an original story set in Kojima’s surreal universe.

“I love the world of Death Stranding, it’s so creatively freeing, so beautifully dark and yet hopeful; I’m so excited and honored that Hideo Kojima, whose work I’ve long admired, has invited me to dwell within his creation, to birth new stories into this fertile, mind-bending universe,” said Guzikowski. “Drawing and animation have always been near and dear to my heart, so to finally get to play in this space is a dream come true.”

The film will be produced in collaboration with entertainment company Line Mileage, who are currently working on their first animated feature, an adaptation of author Andrew Joseph White’s novel Hell Followed With Us.

No release date has been given for this currently untitled Death Stranding animated film, but fans eager to get more of the series can look forward to Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, a sequel game launching this June 28.
