Dear The Magic Rain,
I’m 17, in high school, and I have a gigantic crush on the cutest girl in my class who’s also my best friend. But the catch is that she has a boyfriend. The saddest part I find is that the boyfriend doesn’t fulfil his part as being a good boyfriend.
I feel like I could be there for her as a better boyfriend treating her the way she deserves, but at the same time I don’t wanna break up a relationship. I just want her to be happy, but at the same time, not being with her is making me sad. What should I do?
Sincerely,
Crush.
Dear Crush,
I think what you should do right now is to try to understand and respect her relationship. I know that you love her, and that not being able to be with her is painful. However, if you love her, you need to respect her relationship by not crossing the line, because your very actions could eventually cause her more harm, causing her relationship to crumble.
Try to imagine yourself in her position. Would you like it if someone were to meddle with your relationship when it has nothing to do with them? I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t want that to happen. What you can do as her best friend is to be there for her. If her boyfriend is not fulfilling his part as a good boyfriend and she’s constantly hurt or upset with him, be there for her. Comfort her.
If it’s too painful for you, try to distance yourself from her. If she starts questioning your distance and it starts taking a toll on your relationship with her, then try to explain to her why you’re doing so (as a last resort). I know it’s painful, I’ve been in a similar position before.
Just do your best… If you’re meant to be with her, it’ll happen. If not, life has something else in store for you. So stay strong! All the best.
Sincerely,
Ms. Scrumptious
