Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, the next instalment in the Gundam anime franchise, was officially revealed at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this morning. The series is slated for a 2027 release, starring Takeo Otsuka (Sunday from Honkai: Star Rail) as protagonist Ray Azumi.
The RG XARX-ZERO anime takes place in the same universe as Gundam Rogue Orbit, a game that was revealed earlier this year at Summer Games Fest. Set 100 years before the events of the game, the anime will depict events that shape the setting of the game, creating a unique shared history between both titles.
RG XARX-ZERO will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex), featuring Japanese science-fiction author Toh Enjoe (Harlequin Butterfly) as setting supervisor. Eiichi Shimizu (Ultraman) will serve as Gundam designer, alongside character designs from STATO and Miyako Takasu.
Animation for the series will be produced by SOLA Animation (Rooster Fighter, Joker: Laugh Riot) with production overseen by Bandai Namco Filmworks and SUNRISE.
