Japanese record label FlyingDog has uploaded all 81 songs from the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime soundtrack to their official YouTube channel. The release comes in conjunction with the soundtrack’s upcoming vinyl re-release, happening this July 22 and August 26.
Composed by Yoko Kanno, the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex soundtrack expresses the chaos of a futuristic society by blending eastern European folk songs, jazz, and rock, alongside multilingual vocals in Russian, English and Italian. The soundtrack was previously released on five CD albums.
The Ghost in the Shell franchise is based on a manga of the same name by artist Masamune Shirow. Set in a near-future cyberpunk world, the story follows Major Motoko Kusanagi, leader of an elite cyber-crimes unit known as Section 9, as they investigate various incidents throughout the city.
The manga has been adapted into various anime and film series, including a recent 2026 reboot currently streaming worldwide on Amazon Prime Video. Stand Alone Complex is a 2002 spin-off anime where Section 9 is tasked with investigating a hacktivist known as the “Laughing Man”.
