Six additional cast members have been announced for Hirokazu Koree-da’s live-action adaptation of Look Back, the critically acclaimed manga one-shot by Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto. The film is slated to open in Japanese theatres this September 11.
Look Back follows the poignant and emotional journey of two young girls, Fujino and Kyomoto, who are brought together by their shared passion for drawing manga. Despite their differences, their bond over art creates a touching story of friendship, growth, and the challenges of pursuing dreams.
Natsuki Deguchi and Aju Makita will portray Fujino and Kyomoto respectively, alongside the newly announced supporting cast members Masaki Suda, Kankuro Kudo, Kayo Noro, Ryo Ikeda, Miyu Sasaki, and Maho Yamada. The film is being directed by Hirokazu Koree-da, who previously won a Palme d’Or for his 2018 film Shoplifters.
Originally published in 2021, Look Back gained massive critical and commercial acclaim shortly after its release. The manga was nominated for an Eisner Award in 2023, while its 2024 anime adaptation won Best Animated Feature at the 48th Japan Academy Film Prize ceremony.
