A new Junji Ito anime adaptation is in the works. Titled Junji Ito Crimson, the series was first announced at the recent Japan Expo in Paris, accompanied by the release of the series’ theme song, Karasu Ageha by Yumi Matsutoya. Its release date, cast, and staff are currently unknown.
Junji Ito’s official website states that Crimson will adapt stories based around the theme of “monsters”, additionally describing the series as “a collection of horror stories that carefully selects masterpieces filled with unique madness, allowing you to immerse yourself in the eerie, bizarre, and yet original world of Junji Ito.“
This will be the fourth anime adaptation based on stories from the horror icon. 2018’s Junji Ito: Collection featured twelve episodes and two OVAs; followed by 2023’s Junji Ito Maniac: Tales of the Macabre, which also ran for twelve episodes. Ito’s long-form series Uzumaki was adapted into a four-episode anime mini-series, which premiered in 2024.
