From 5-6 September, Pokémon fans of all ages flocked towards LaLaport BBCC for a triple celebration of all things Pokémon. The iconic lifestyle mall played host to not only Pokémon Mezastar Fest and the Pokémon GO Fest Mega Finale, but also our very own Pokémon 30th Anniversary Community Event (PACE30)!
Happening at three activity zones across LaLaport BBCC’s fourth floor, visitors could take part in a variety of fun community-based activities:
Stamp Rally
Visitors to PACE30 could start their journey at the LaLaport BBCC Exhibition Hall, where they could collect an exclusive stamp card and earn prizes by completing various tasks. Once they completed their card, visitors could return to the Exhibition Hall to redeem a free gift on the spot, which included everything from store vouchers to official Pokémon merchandise.
Contests
The Drink Like a Lapras and Eat Like a Munchlax competitions saw participants challenging themselves to be the fastest to finish select drinks and dishes, provided by our official sponsors Mixue and Doko Koko. Each intrepid challenger wasted no time in finishing their meals, with both contests wrapping up in less than fifteen minutes.
Meanwhile, the PokéPun contest offered a more relaxed but no less entertaining change of pace, as participants were given five minutes to deliver the most creative Pokémon-related puns they could think of. Flexing their creative skills, the participants wove in not only Pokémon names but also moves and game references into their routines, sending the audience into fits of laughter.
Rip ‘n Ship Live
For the uninitiated, Rip ‘n Ship is a popular livestreaming format in the TCG community, where fans can purchase packs of cards for streamers to open on a live broadcast. PACE30 brought the experience live to visitors at LaLaport BBCC, where guests Butterfly, ShioAji and Fish Xinyu tried their hand at opening Pokémon TCG packs purchased by curious onlookers.
With Pokémon battle music blaring in the background, the anticipation was high as the influencers slowly revealed each card hidden in the pack, with the crowd erupting in cheers whenever they managed to pull a rare card.
PokéLelong
Speaking of rare cards, the PokéLelong session gave collectors and fans a chance to bid on a selection of Pokémon TCG items, allowing them to score sought-after packs at great prices. With plenty of interest from the community, the auction added a lively and interactive element to the day.
Pokémon Champions
Trainers put their skills to the test in a Pokémon Champions tournament organised by Offstage Malaysia, competing in friendly but spirited matches throughout the event.
Outside of the tournament, interested visitors could also speak to experienced Champions players to learn new tips and tricks on the game. It was a great opportunity for fans to showcase their strategies, meet fellow Trainers and enjoy some friendly competition.
Vendor Booths
The event also featured a variety of vendor booths offering something for every Pokémon fan. Visitors could browse various fan-made Pokémon crafts at the Artists’ Alley, with everything from stickers and charms, to custom cards and even live commissions up for sale.
At the same time, there was more to discover within the LaLaport BBCC Exhibition Hall. Participants could pick up the Pokémon TCG through learn-to-play sessions organised by Owlbear Eyrie, score great deals on Pokémon TCG products from Kaadoya, and get creative with a Pokémon miniature painting workshop from Chibi Coffee Mao and The Will to Paint.
PokéTrivia and PokéCharades
Fans were invited to put their Pokémon knowledge and creativity to the test through trivia and charades. From identifying Pokémon facts to acting out familiar characters and moments, the activities provided plenty of laughs and opportunities for attendees to join in, with Pokémon stickers, Pokémon Mezastar tags, and exclusive vouchers from LaLaport BBCC, Doko Koko, and Mixue up for grabs.
Performances
Adding to the atmosphere were musical performances that brought the community together with a mixture of Pokémon classics, videogame soundtracks, and popular songs. Performances from special guests Jeff, AriesFaries, Snowstorm, Pudds and Hermit provided a lively backdrop to the day’s activities, and gave attendees another way to enjoy the celebration.
