This Merdeka season, Honor of Kings Malaysia and Malaysian animation IP Kisah Bawah Tanah are bringing two different worlds together in a first-of-its-kind collaboration! Running from Merdeka through Malaysia Day, the collaboration brings the irreverent supernatural world of Kisah Bawah Tanah into the universe of Honor of Kings.
Kisah Bawah Tanah is a Malaysian animated comedy series produced by Animasia Studio, which turns familiar Southeast Asian supernatural folklore on its head through comedy, social satire, and Gen-Z humour. The series premiered in Malaysia earlier this year, and has since expanded internationally with its Thailand broadcast debut on Boom Thailand.

The collaboration will be supported through a series of digital content, creator activations, livestreams, and social-first engagements, giving fans multiple ways to participate throughout the Merdeka and Malaysia Day period.
Edmund Chan, Managing Director of Animasia Studio, expressed his enthusiasm: “Kisah Bawah Tanah has always been about taking stories and characters that are familiar to us and presenting them in unexpected ways. Working with Honor of Kings allows us to bring that same spirit into gaming and introduce our characters to an entirely new community. It is especially meaningful to do this during the Merdeka and Malaysia Day period, when we are celebrating what makes Malaysian creativity unique.”

Eugene Chin, Head of Honor of Kings Malaysia, added:”Our players in Malaysia have always shown an incredible passion for the game, and we are constantly looking for meaningful ways to connect our universe with the local creative landscape. Partnering with a dynamic, homegrown animation IP like Kisah Bawah Tanah allows us to celebrate Malaysian talent and storytelling in an authentic, high-energy way. Merdeka and Malaysia Day are all about community and shared identity, and we’re thrilled to give our players a crossover that is distinctly, proudly local.”
