Netflix is adapting the Persona videogame franchise into a live-action TV series, according to a new report from Variety. Christopher Monfette (9-1-1, Star Trek: Picard) is attached as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the series.
Other executive producers credited on the series include Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Robert Atwood of 21 Laps; Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson of Story Kitchen; as well as Toru Nakahara of SEGA.
21 Laps is best known for producing Stranger Things, Backrooms, and Deadpool & Wolverine, while Story Kitchen is currently producing live-action adaptations of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Life is Strange. It is currently unknown if the upcoming Netflix Persona series will adapt any of the existing games, or if the project will be an original story set in the same universe.
The Persona franchise, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, originated as a set of spin-off titles from the Shin Megami Tensei videogame series. The series’ latest instalment, Persona 5 Royal, was recently revealed to be one of SEGA’s best-selling titles of the past year, with over 8 million copies sold worldwide.
