Looking for a new romance visual novel to play? We’ve got two great recommendations for you, created by indie developers based right here in Southeast Asia! Best of all, you’ll be able to try out demos of both titles, available now on PC via Steam.
Starting out with something fun and fluffy, Ookami Okami from Indonesia-based Mushroomallow Studio has you play as Akine, a once-elderly innkeeper reborn as a beautiful youkai (Japanese spirit). Navigate the Spirit Realm through interactive point-and-click gameplay and meaningful choices throughout the story, which features a slow-burn romance with a mysterious White Tiger god.
The demo will show the early parts of the story and offer a charming introduction to the main characters Akine and Shimon, filled with playful banter, flirty exchanges, and plenty of funny moments.
If you’re looking for a game that explores more serious themes, Of The Lilies by Philippine-based Startris Studio is set in a fantasy colonial world in the 1880s, where you play as a chieftain-to-be whose hometown was invaded by the Seiyslan Empire. You were saved by Lady Sabina, who brought you into her home, with the condition that you join an organization that keeps the Seiyslan people safe.
You’ll have the chance to meet 5 love interests along the way: Seiji, your protective best friend; Myo, the charming rebel leader; Taji, your mysterious rival, Laisa, a cunning pirate; and Lien, the conqueror who separated you from your family. As the game progresses, you are faced with an impossible choice that forces you to ask: who are you willing to sacrifice?
The demo so far contains 2 out of the 5 possible love interests, as well as the prologue of the story, where you’ll discover the main character’s backstory.
