Big news for all webcomic enthusiasts out there: WEBTOON, the popular digital comic platform, has recently made a significant change, quietly phasing out its well-known Daily Pass feature. This means that if you’ve been relying on Daily Pass to catch up on your favorite series, you might have noticed a shift in how you access those episodes.
Previously, Daily Pass allowed readers to unlock one episode per day from completed series, with access lasting for a 14 days. It was a fantastic way to dive into new stories or binge old favorites without dipping into your digital wallet. The feature, first introduced in 2020 and expanded to some ongoing titles in 2022, was a go-to for many users looking to sample series before committing to a coin purchase.
With the new update, episodes that were once available through Daily Pass will now require coins to unlock, usually costing three coins per episode. Some series can be unlocked just by watching ads, with the catch that ad-unlocked episodes will expire after three days. No changes will be made to the existing Fast Pass system, which offers early access to new chapters for a coin fee, with no expiration date.
WEBTOON Entertainment addressed the change in a “Notice to Users” within the app, stating: “WEBTOON will no longer offer the Daily Pass feature as of 5/29. We’re expanding new ways to access episodes of entire series. Readers now have two ways to enjoy their favorite titles beyond Fast Pass: Watch ads to unlock select episodes for free, or use Coins to unlock entire series at once.”
The company’s message emphasized a move towards giving readers more immediate access to entire series, saying, “No more waiting until the next day to read the next episode.” They also highlighted that these paid experiences continue to support the talented creators on the platform.
While the Daily Pass will certainly be missed by many, WEBTOON is clearly aiming to provide more flexible and immediate ways for fans to enjoy their vast library of amazing stories. So, whether you’re collecting coins, watching ads, or fast-passing your way through, there are still plenty of ways to keep up with your webcomic addiction!
