Makoto Yukimura’s long-running historical manga Vinland Saga will conclude next month with its 220th chapter. The announcement was made via the author’s official X account, ahead of an upcoming notice in its home publication, Monthly Afternoon.
In his post, Yukimura confirmed that the series will take a break this month and return for its final chapter on July 25. He also apologized for the short notice and the series’ frequent delays, noting that the final instalment has been especially challenging and time-consuming to draw.
Vinland Saga first launched in Weekly Shonen Magazine on April 13, 2005, before moving to Monthly Afternoon later that year. Over its 20-year serialization, the manga has been collected into 28 volumes and has earned critical acclaim and several awards, including the 36th Kodansha Manga Award for Best General Manga in 2012.
The manga also inspired a successful anime adaptation, which premiered in 2019 and currently spans two seasons. It tells the tale of Thorfinn, a young Viking warrior searching for the legendary land of Vinland during a time of great conflict.
