New ‘RWBY’ Fan Survey Hints At Possible Franchise Revival

Rooster Teeth’s flagship animated series RWBY might be making a comeback. The official RWBY account recently posted a new survey asking fans for their thoughts on the series, as well as their opinions and consumption habits towards popular anime, games, and books.

The survey seems to hint at a possible reboot or revival of the RWBY franchise, with fans being asked to name the tone, aesthetics, and setting they would most like to see in future RWBY content. Fans could also vote for the types of media they would be most interested in seeing, with options ranging from “a new (RWBY) animated series” to “visual novel” or even “live-action adaptation”.

RWBY started out in 2013 as an animated web series created and directed by the late Rooster Teeth animator Monty Oum, telling the story of a fantasy world where students are trained to defend the world against monsters known as the “Grimm”. The series continued following Oum’s passing in 2015, spawning nine seasons and various spin-offs, including an anime adaptation titled RWBY: Ice Queendom.

Behind the scenes, RWBY’s production company Rooster Teeth went through a number of management changes, with its then-parent company Warner Bros. eventually selling the RWBY franchise to VIZ Media in 2024. The franchise has largely remained on hiatus ever since.

If a reboot is in the works, it’s one that’s still in very early stages of development, with the team having yet to decide on a tone or direction – but it’s still exciting news for fans nonetheless. Those interested in having their say can find the RWBY survey here.
