Lotte Entertainment has released the first trailer for Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, a live-action adaptation of the popular web novel of the same name by writer Sing Shong.
Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint follows Kim Dokja, a young office worker who loves to read, with his favourite web novel being “Three Ways To Survive In A Ruined World”. However, his life is turned upside down when the events of the novel start merging with the real world. Dokja will need to use his understanding of how the story ends to change the fate of the world as he knows it.
Originally published in 2018 and ending in 2020, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint has gained massive critical and commercial acclaim from readers, especially as the novel was adapted into a webtoon that recorded over 26 million views in 2019. In 2021, the novel also won the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award in the Korea Content Awards’ Manhwa Category. An anime adaptation is currently in the works from Crunchyroll.
The live-action adaptation will feature an A-list cast, starring popular K-drama actors such as Lee Min-ho, Ahn Hyo-seop, and Chae Soo-bin, as well as K-pop star Jisoo from BLACKPINK. However, the trailer has sparked mixed reactions from fans over the film’s cast, as well as what looks to be major changes to the story, such as the decision to give some characters guns instead of their original swords.
If you’re curious to see how the live-action adaptation will turn out, then be sure to stay tuned for when the film drops later this July.
