‘The One Ring’ RPG Becomes Free League’s Most-Funded Campaign

Free League Publishing’s latest crowdfunding campaign for The One Ring and The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying 5E has raised more than US$2.5 million on BackerKit, making it the publisher’s most-funded campaign to date. The campaign will remain open until October 15, 2026.

The campaign includes new expansions covering Gondor and Rohan, a Middle-earth bestiary, and revised core rules for both tabletop RPGs. As funding milestones continue to unlock, backers have also gained access to a detailed new map of Bree by Francesco Mattioli, which will be included as a full spread in the revised core rules and offered separately as a cloth map.

The latest campaign rewards include:

  • Glorfindel as a new patron in the Gondor and Rohan expansion
  • Three new adventure locations: The Prison of Ras Morthil, The Camp of the Werewolves, and The Tower of Triumph, a sorcerers’ watchtower in Umbar
  • Optional Setting Up Camp rules for journeys into the Wild
  • Hobgoblins and Great Beasts added to the bestiary
  • Printed maps of Rohan, Gondor, and Minas Tirith by Francesco Mattioli
  • Illustrated cardboard standees included with physical bundle pledges at no extra cost
  • Gondor-themed dice for both games, including new 5E sets featuring d20s engraved with the Rune of Gandalf and the Eye of Sauron

The new content expands adventures into Minas Tirith and across Gondor and Rohan, while introducing additional rules for mounted combat and travel. The expanded bestiaries also add iconic threats such as Ringwraiths and Balrogs.

The revised The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying 5E core rules will make the game fully standalone and compatible with the 5.5 ruleset. Both RPGs will also include Strider Mode, allowing players to experience solo adventures without previously requiring the PDF-only version of the rules. Existing supplements will remain compatible with their respective games.

The BackerKit campaign runs until October 15, 2026 at 3:00 PM EDT, with shipping currently estimated for October 2027.
