The upcoming Medalist anime film has received its first teaser trailer, new character visuals and a confirmed Japanese theatrical release date of February 19, 2027. The teaser offers a new look at Tsukasa and Inori’s journey as they pursue their shared dream of global competitive figure skating.
The film will tell an original story that picks up where the anime’s recently concluded second season left off. Much of the main cast and production staff from the anime will also return for the movie.
Medalist is based on a manga of the same name by Tsurumai Ikada, which follows Inori Yuitsuka, an 11-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a world-class figure skater. Despite being told that she is too old to begin training, she teams up with Tsukasa Akeuraji, a former ice dancer, who agrees to coach her towards becoming an Olympic medalist.
The manga has received major recognition, winning Best General Manga at both the 68th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2023 and the 48th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2024. It was later adapted into an anime series that premiered in Japan in January 2025, followed by a second season on January 24, 2026.
The production of Medalist is also notable for involving professional figure skaters. Rika Hongo participated in motion-capture filming, while former Olympic skater Akiko Suzuki worked on the choreography, alongside retired skater Yuhana Yokoi and active competitor Hinano Isobe.
