Riot Games Announces End of Active Development For 2XKO

Earlier today, Riot Games announced that the company will be ending active development for 2XKO, its free-to-play 2v2 fighting game which launched in January 2026. Riot Games cited a lack of game sustainability as the main reason for the game’s closure, stating, “2XKO costs us substantially more to operate than it brings in, and engagement has stayed relatively flat despite our larger updates“.

While 2XKO’s active development will conclude at the end of 2026, the game’s servers will remain on to support online play, while offline play will be unaffected. Riot Games also announced plans to unlock all of the game’s champions, and to offer refunds for any money players may have spent on or before August 20.

The company also shared a roadmap outlining the game’s final months:

August:

  • KO Points purchases disabled: Players will no longer be able to purchase new KO Points. Any remaining points players have can be spent in the rotating store before patch 1.3.1.
  • Refunds to be issued: All purchases made prior to August 20 will be refunded to the payment method used to purchase them by November 2026.

September:

  • Lux, the Lady of Luminosity: Lux’s release remains on schedule, dropping with patch 1.3.1. on September 8.
  • 2XKO Ultimate Bundle: Players will have one last chance to collect all of 2XKO’s cosmetics with the Ultimate Bundle, which includes all skins, skin chromas, taunts and finishers for every champion.
  • Credits update: Most items will be made available using Credits or earned currency, including avatar items, select base champion chromas, stages, and player profile items. Credits limit will also be uncapped from 12,000.
  • Streamlined experience: Selected systems will be updated to support the game’s online future:
    • Battle Passes, KO Points, Champion Tokens, seasons, and events will be removed.
    • Ranked lobbies will be disabled, while matchmaking in Casual lobbies will be adjusted. Private lobbies remain unaffected.
    • All champions will be unlocked for all players, while Fuses will still be unlockable through tutorials.
    • Private lobbies will largely remain unchanged, but will be expanded to add a voice chat, and support for up to 40 players.

October:

  • Samira, the Desert Rose: Launching with patch 1.3.3 is Samira, 2XKO’s final champion.
  • 2XKO Ultimate Bundle update: All remaining skins and cosmetics will be added to the bundle, with previous buyers automatically receiving the new items.

December:

  • Patch 1.3.5: An optional patch which will mainly focus on bug fixes instead of new content.
  • 2XKO goes dark: The game will stop receiving updates, but its servers will still remain online. The game will still be available to download for free on PC, PlayStation 5, and XBOX Series X|S.
