HBO Max has officially ordered Adventure Time: Bubblegum & Marceline, a new 10-episode animated series centered on two of the franchise’s most beloved characters. Following the success of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake and Adventure Time: Distant Lands, longtime franchise veteran Adam Muto will return as showrunner and executive producer.
The new series will follow Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen as they travel across the farthest reaches of Ooo, encountering both familiar faces and new threats along the way. The project is being produced by Cartoon Network Studios, with executive producers Fred Seibert and Sam Register also attached.
Princess Bubblegum has been a cornerstone of the franchise since creator Pendleton Ward first introduced the character in the original Adventure Time pilot. Meanwhile, Marceline quickly became a fan favorite after her debut in the show’s first season, eventually receiving major storylines such as the acclaimed Stakes arc.
One of the most celebrated aspects of the franchise has been the relationship between Bubblegum and Marceline, often referred to by fans as “Bubbline.” Their romantic history was gradually explored throughout the original series before being officially confirmed in the finale, where the pair shared an on-screen kiss. The relationship has since remained a significant part of Adventure Time lore, including recent comic releases focused on the duo.
