Kojima Productions’ PHYSINT has been cancelled at PlayStation Studios, according to a new statement from creator Hideo Kojima’s official X/Twitter account. Development will now proceed through Xbox, who picked up the project after PlayStation’s cancellation in June.
“Creators have choices about where and how they bring their ideas to life. We’re honored that Kojima-san has chosen Xbox to work with Kojima Productions on PHYSINT. His ambition to challenge conventions reflects the kind of creativity we want to support at Xbox,” said Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. Xbox also confirmed that both companies will collaborate across not only games, but also film and television.

Meanwhile, a statement from PlayStation’s social media read: “Our relationship remains strong after three decades of industry-leading, genre-defining creative cooperation, and we look forward to continued close collaboration with Hideo Kojima and his award-winning independent studio in the future.”
PHYSINT is a stealth-action game touted as a spiritual successor to Kojima’s genre-defining Metal Gear Solid series. First announced in 2025, the game will reportedly feature a heavyweight cast including Charlee Fraser (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Ma Dong-seok (Train To Busan), and Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One).
Prior to picking up PHYSINT, Xbox was previously announced as the publisher behind Kojima Productions’ upcoming horror title OD, which stars Sophia Lillis (Honor Among Thieves), Udo Kier (Hunters), and Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), with director Jordan Peele (Nope, Get Out) serving as co-writer.
