The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct 9.8.2026 just wrapped and there were some big announcements! The broadcast showcased Nintendo’s plans for celebrating the iconic game’s 40th anniversary with lots of cool collaborations, limited edition items, and more.
In case you missed it, here are the announcements from the broadcast!
1. The Legend Of Zelda Live Action Movie Is Set To Premiere On 30th April, 2027
Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Legend of Zelda, revealed in the broadcast that the film, also titled “The Legend of Zelda”, will release on 30th April, 2027. The movie will be an original story drawing inspiration from the entirety of the series’ existence. Miyamoto-san also added that “once you watch it, you’ll understand why it has no subtitles”. Of course, the Triforce will play a role in the film, but it’s a secret for now. Until then, we’ll have to keep an eye out for updates!
2. The Legend Of Zelda 40th Anniversary Collaborations
The broadcast also revealed various collaborations commemorations to honour the series’ 40th anniversary, such as a Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary makeover of the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto. Miyamoto-san also revealed new Master Sword-themed photo ops and more, as well the Super Family Restaurant coming in Fall featuring a statue of Link amongst other Nintendo staples.
Other commemoration and celebrations include:
- Legend of Zelda calendar animation changes on the Nintendo Today app;
- Nintendo Museum Official Book Vol. 2 launching 5th November, 2026;
- A construct Amiibo;
- A Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time playable ocarina and electric ocarina of time;
- Link & Epona LEGO set;
- Zelda, Link, and Ganondork action figures, and electronic Master Sword collab with Hasbro.
3. The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake – Switch 2 Gameplay First Look & Release Date Reveal
One of the biggest highlights of the broadcast was our first look at the The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake for the Nintendo Switch 2. The remake is set to release on 5th November, 2026, which is really soon! As demonstrated by series producer Eiji Aonuma, the gameplay reveal showcased new features and improvements the remake will include to give players an entirely new experience from the original.

4. Zelda Notes Now Available For Ocarina Of Time Remake
Previously only available for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Zelda Notes will now also work for the Ocarina of Time remake. Some of the showcased Zelda Notes features are ‘Today’s Records’, to assist you in tracking your achievements, or ‘Gossip Quests’ to find locations, which can then earn you points for the app’s playable ocarina!
5. Presenting The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2
To top it all off, Nintendo also revealed Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2. This edition of the Switch 2 comes decked out in green and gold, and bears the iconic Triforce. Along with it is also the 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 Pro Controller and carrying case!
