Games HQ Malaysia is celebrating Malaysia’s upcoming Independence Day with Merdeka Jam, an online game jam inviting developers, artists, and storytellers to create games inspired by all things Malaysian. Held in collaboration with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the jam runs from 7th to 31st August 2026 and leads up to LEVEL UP KL in October.
With the theme “Make it Malaysian – Celebrating all things Malaysian,” participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from Malaysia’s diverse culture, history, national pride, and everyday quirks. The jam is less about intense competition and more about creativity, local flavour, and community spirit.
Merdeka Jam is open to everyone, including students, hobbyists, and professionals, with participants welcome to join solo or in teams. The jam is fully online, free to enter, and allows games made using any engine or platform.
While there are no cash prizes, participants can receive virtual awards across categories such as The Merdeka Award, The Jalur Gemilang Award, The Manglish Award, The Cuti-Cuti Award, The Durian Award, and The Sedap Award, among others.
