Sony Pictures Entertainment has released a brand-new official trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil live-action reboot, offering fans their first extended look at the latest adaptation of CAPCOM’s iconic survival horror franchise.
The trailer highlights Austin Abrams as the film’s protagonist, Bryan, while teasing a return to the franchise’s horror roots.
Release Dates
The film is scheduled to premiere in North American theaters on September 18, followed by its Japanese release on October 9.
Cast and Crew
Austin Abrams leads the cast as Bryan, alongside co-stars Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser. Abrams is best known for playing Ethan Daley on the TV series Euphoria, as well as James from the 2025 film Weapons.
The reboot is directed by Zach Cregger, known for his work on Barbarian and Weapons; featuring a screenplay is co-written by Cregger and Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 4, Army of the Dead).
A Long-Running Franchise
Resident Evil is one of the most iconic horror game franchises of all time, with the original 1996 Resident Evil game having been inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame in 2024. The series’ latest title, Resident Evil Requiem, surpassed 6 million copies sold worldwide, making it the fastest-selling game in the history of the Resident Evil series.
The franchise has been adapted to film multiple times, starting with an original live-action film series starring Milla Jovovich, which ran from 2002 to 2017. The franchise was rebooted once before with 2021’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, with this upcoming reboot marking the official eighth live-action film in the Resident Evil franchise.
