Date A Live Creators’ King’s Proposal Light Novels Set for Anime Adaptation

Good news is officially on the way for fans of the acclaimed light novel duo, author Koushi Tachibana and illustrator Tsunako. The creative team behind the legendary Date A Live franchise is seeing their latest series, King’s Proposal (Ōsama no Propose), receive an anime adaptation.

The announcement was made by Kadokawa during the recent “Fantasia Bunko Hōsōkyoku Aki no Dai Kanshasai” livestream event, though specific details such as the release window or studio were not immediately revealed during the event. To celebrate the news, illustrator Tsunako also shared a commemorative illustration.

King’s Proposal follows Saika Kuozaki, a powerful witch who is the only person capable of thwarting mysterious entities that threaten the world every 300 hours. However, after being mortally wounded, Saika transfers her body to an ordinary high school boy named Mushiki Kuga, who happens upon her. Suddenly imbued with powers he can’t control, Mushiki must attend an academy for mages as Saika — a demanding task that requires him to keep his true identity an absolute secret while striving to save the world.

The King’s Proposal light novel series first launched in 2021, and the eighth Japanese volume was released in August 2024. It follows the massive success of the creators’ previous work, Date A Live, which ran from 2011 to 2020, and inspired multiple manga, video game, and anime adaptations.
