Independent game developer Aeos Games have revealed a substantial amount of gameplay for its upcoming Indian epic-inspired Soulslike, Unleash the Avatar. The game is set in an alternate version of India where the player is up against the wayward forces of Naraka, who have managed to unseal the barrier between realms.
A new trailer shows off the haunting vistas of Vishwapur, a once-pristine coastal locale now overrun by Nisthari Rakshas. Players are tasked with defeating them with an assortment of combat options at their disposal, with genre staples like dodge, parry, and stagger attacks, along with some new innovations like a ranged chakra and a flashy feather prism form.
“We’re big fans of soulslikes thanks to their challenging combat and story-telling,” says Rohan Mayya, CEO and co-founder of Aeos Games. “And while it could be easy enough to reskin existing efforts and call it a day, our team has painstakingly built up everything from first principles. From our in-house, best-in-class photogrammetry to full-body mo-cap and even our bespoke enemy AI systems, every single bit of Unleash the Avatar has been lovinglyhand-crafted to make a game you — and us — would be happy to play.”
The team at Aeos Games is about 40 people strong, with a mix of fresh talent and veterans that previously worked on AAA hits such as Ghost of Tsushima, Path of Exile 2, and Hogwarts Legacy. The game is also completely self-funded by Aeos Games, with no external funding thus far.

“Every wishlist counts because not only does it build our confidence that we’re making something you care about, but it signals to the world that Indian games have an audience,” Mayya shares. “So if the trailer resonates with you and if you believe in a bold spin on the soulslike genre from a scrappy team, please hit that wishlist button now.”
