Nintendo celebrated the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros with the announcement of their second Hollywood animated film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Inspired by the Super Mario Galaxy series of games, the movie takes Mario and friends into the far reaches of outer space for an extraterrestrial adventure.
American animation studio Illumination — best known for their work on the Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets, and Sing franchises — returns to animate the sequel. The voice cast from the first film will also reprise their roles, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Alongside the movie announcement, Nintendo announced the addition of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 to the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems on October 2, 2025. The games will be sold together as a physical bundle, with the option to purchase them separately in the Nintendo eShop.
