Game developers, content creators, and enthusiasts alike gathered at the Passion Republic HQ on June 8th to celebrate a historic milestone in the Southeast Asian game development scene. The inaugural Southeast Asian Games Showcase, which premiered as part of Summer Game Fest earlier that morning, brought our region’s games to the global stage, showcasing world premieres and trailers from publishers and studios across the region.

The official Malaysia Watch Party, organised by THE MAGIC RAIN and Passion Republic, saw nearly 100 participants gathering in-person to watch it for the first time. The 50-minute long showcase highlighted 45 original games, ending with an exciting reveal by Malaysia’s own Metronomik, as they announced the sequel to their award-winning hit musical adventure, No Straight Roads 2.

The Watch Party also featured playable demos from Malaysian game developers in the showcase, including HO! Games’ psychological horror visual novel Am I Nima, Enigma Equation’s cinematic roguelike deckbuilder Operatives: Revolve, CtrlD Studio’s satirical action-tower defense game Overhours, and Passion Republic’s epic kaiju fighting game GigaBash.

Besides Malaysia, a series of online and in-person watch parties were also hosted in Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Brunei; complemented by an official Steam event happening from now until 20th June.
