‘Honkai: Star Rail’, ‘Frieren’ Voice Actors Star In Indonesia-Made Card Battler ‘Kumitantei: Old School Slaughter’

Indonesia-based Mango Factory have released their first demo for Kumitantei: Old School Slaughter, a Danganronpa-inspired murder-mystery card battler that successfully launched on Kickstarter last year. The game has also welcomed eighteen voice actors to the lineup for its Early Access launch this fall.

Kumitantei: Old School Slaughter is an ode to the retro anime and pop culture stylings of 1980s Japan. Set in a dystopian 20th-century Japan, sixteen students are trapped in a kill-or-be-killed Apathy Experiment hosted by a sadistic two-faced cat. Will they band together to uncover secrets of the past, or lose their humanity and lives in the present?

Playing as the sheepish Absolute Barista Himari Sanada, it’s your job to uncover the bunker’s many secrets, earn the trust of your strange fellow captives, investigate their grisly murders at the hands of a fellow classmate, and battle it out to discover whodunnit in the high-stakes Clinical Trial!

Card Battle Combat

Kumitantei’s gameplay intertwines character interactions with card-based combat. Spend time with your fellow classmates and offer them appropriate gifts to unlock new talent cards, which offer you advantages in future card battles. In these 1-on-1 battles, you can deal attacks with Debate cards, finding weaknesses in your opponent’s argument to strengthen your own.

As the battle progresses, you’ll keep presenting proper evidence against your opponent, eventually striking with The Final Word to silence them. Additional Talent Cards are available to strengthen your gameplay, and high Trust levels with other students may present advantages in battle.

All-Star Cast

Players can get a taste of the experience in Kumitantei’s demo, which was released in conjunction with Steam Next Fest. The demo features the game’s fully voiced story Prologue, a customizable Card Battle Debate with four distinct opponents, and the Donkey Kong-inspired retro minigame ‘Merlite.’

The game will launch on Steam Early Access later this year, featuring the first episode with eighteen voice-acted characters. Elsie Lovelock (Murder Drones, Hazbin Hotel) performs the game’s city pop-style vocals. Notable cast members include Mia Paige (Preecha from Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves) as protagonist Himari, Joshua Waters (Phainon from Honkai: Star Rail) as deuteragonist Moichiro, and Jordan Dash Cruz (Stark from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End) as the two-faced cat Nyanus.
