From the 14th to the 15th of June, THE MAGIC RAIN teamed up with LaLaport BBCC to host Dice ‘N Dine – a brand-new tabletop event concept that would combine the joys of food and gaming. Taking place at the Lower Ground Cafeteria of Lalaport BBCC, the event brought together over 2,000 tabletop gaming enthusiasts and food lovers over both days.
The event featured a mix of games, tournaments, and merchandise sales, all complemented by free food from participating cafeteria vendors. Designed to attract both new and seasoned gamers, Dice ‘N Dine aimed to provide an engaging platform to support local tabletop businesses and foster social interaction between attendees, especially in this increasingly digital age.
A major highlight from the event was the series of competitive matches for Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon and Altered. Held by local hobby stores Quantum Nexus Kuala Lumpur and Owlbear Eyrie, the tournaments attracted over 200 participants across both days. A few attendees even managed to walk away with prizes during the tournament’s lucky draws, which included a life-size replica of Cloud’s Buster Sword.

Casual participants and even a number of curious mall shoppers had the opportunity to join Dice ‘N Dine’s Stamp Rally, where they were tasked with participating in fun activities, such as learning a party game at the Free Play area, or picking up a card game, board game or miniature painting at their respective game zones. By completing the Stamp Rally, participants could redeem a free meal from one of five participating cafeteria vendors.
Through the stamp rally, participants were encouraged to try out games and activities that might have been new to them. Local board game designers were able to showcase both early prototypes and fully fleshed-out games to a wider audience, while hobby stores and community figures introduced them to various niches in the tabletop scene, such as miniature wargaming and roleplay games.

Last but certainly not least, attendees looking to take something home could stop by at the art and boardgame market, where local artists could be found selling handmade merchandise and art pieces. Boardgame stores such as Vivae Board Game Cafe and Meeples featured a variety of brand-new games for sale, while the Pasar Malam Board Game booth offered secondhand boardgames at great discounts.

As Dice ’N Dine wound to a close on the evening of June 15, there was only one question on everyone’s lips: When is your next tabletop event? Well, we can’t give away anything just yet – but we’re definitely cooking something up behind the scenes!
