Ever wanted to play a rhythm game you could scream at? I Write Games Not Tragedies is a emo-inspired visual novel-meets-rhythm game experience slated for release in late 2025, exploring three eras of life and lessons through the eyes of protagonist Ash. And, yes, in case you were wondering – the title is an homage to Panic! At the Disco.
Players will both adore and cringe over Ash during his “baby bat” years in the 2010s, resonate with his anxieties and battles with alcoholism in the 2010s, then join him on his quest for the meaning of life as an elder emo in the 2020s. You’ll relish in his humour, encounters with romance, and occasional discomfort – while also hitting lyrics to the beat, and even screaming out at the right points to obtain a high score!
The game is developed by Studio Wife and Cornmandog, two female developers now living in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong after studying together in London. It will be the first title to be published under Neon Noroshi’s marketing arm Yotsuba Interactive, a partnership that was formed due to the Yotsuba team’s interest in the game’s exploration of emo and goth subcultures.
