‘Borderlands 4’ Official Story Trailer Reveals Familiar Characters And New Villains

The Borderlands 4 Official Story Trailer dropped last weekend at the Borderlands FanFest in LA, finally giving fans a feel of the general tone and setting for the upcoming instalment to the Borderlands franchise.

Of course there are several questions floating around in our minds right now, so let discuss them! However, to avoid potentially spoiling or over-speculating, I’ll refrain from discussing the story itself too much.

The Tone

Beginning with the overall mood of the game, it appears that Borderlands is returning to its roots, with a more serious and gritty tone. Nonetheless, it doesn’t mean that Borderlands 4 is going to be completely devoid of laughter as we still see the characters having some witty banter and jokes to spare, though a tad grimmer. Of course, we also see the infamous CL4P-TP returning to accompany and irritate assist throughout the main story.

The Return of Old Friends

Speaking of old friends, the Official Trailer also shows the return of the ever cool Zane, the sassy Amara, and everyone’s mommy favourite Mad Moxxi.

As the trailer is only so long, all returning characters are of course not gonna be revealed, so we can only wait and see. Personally, I would love to see the return of Krieg as a constant supporting characters and hear his psycho-tic (heh… get it) manner of speaking.

The Big Bad

But what is a story of hero without an adversary? Borderlands has always featured a plethora of interesting and intriguing characters. The villains play an especially big role in captivating the audience with their inane behaviour and deplorable acts, the best of these being Handsome Jack of course, and I’m sure it’s an opinion shared amongst the fans.

Coming back to Borderlands 4, the official trailer introduces us to the intimidating and menacing Time-Keeper, who appears to be the main antagonist of the game intending to bend all in Chyros to his rule and eliminate free will. On the surface, his motives seem to be similar to Jack’s visions for a utopia under his control. However, the pertinent question would be, will he be as charismatic and appealing as Jack, we’ll have actually play the story to find out, and I do hope he is. Another pressing question is, who exactly is the lady with the giant robot arms?

Conclusion

The game looks promising and I am certainly looking forward to it on 12 September 2025. From the new playable vault-hunters to what was revealed at the FanFest, Borderlands 4 certainly aims to impress fans and reel them back in with new and interesting NPCs, story and gameplay. Until then, here’s to more looting-and-shooting.
