New ‘Ninja Boy Rantaro’ Movie To Air In Malaysian Theatres This May 22

Film distributor Encore Films Malaysia has announced that Nintama Rantaro: Invincible Master of the Dokutake Ninja will open in Malaysian theatres this May 22. The film is the first theatrical release for the Nintama Rantaro franchise in over 13 years.

The film originally opened in Japan on December 20, selling over 198,000 tickets in its first weekend, and earning 295 million yen. Aside from Malaysia, Encore Films has confirmed that Invincible Master of the Dokutake Ninja will also open in Thailand this coming May 29.

Nintama Rantaro is a popular, long-running anime series based on a manga of the same name by Amako Soubee. The anime adaptation began airing in 1993, and is still on-going today, having just aired its 2,321st episode. It was localised in Malaysia under the name “Ninja Boy Rantaro”, where it was aired on local channels such as TV2, NTV7, and Astro Ceria.

The movie is based on a 2013 novel by Kazuhisa Sakaguchi, which opens with Rantaro’s teacher, Hansuke Doi, losing a battle against Sonnamon, a tasogaredoki ninja. While the other members of the Ninjutsu Academy search for Doi-sensei, they’re suddenly approached by a man in white who appears at the Academy.

More updates will be made via Encore Films Malaysia.
