GSC Cinemas has confirmed that the cinema chain will be bringing ‘COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing’ to Malaysian theatres. The film, which debuted at #2 in Japan and sold over 230,500 tickets in three days, is based on the popular mobile game Project Sekai (also known as Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage in some regions).
Project Sekai is set in a world where Vocaloids such as Hatsune Miku exist in the real world as virtual singers. Different versions of these Vocaloids also exist in “SEKAI” or alternate dimensions created from a person’s “true feelings”, with the Vocaloids’ appearance changing depending on the person’s emotions. The game mainly focuses on original characters who deal with various issues with the help of the Vocaloids.
The movie will feature an original story following the game character Ichika Hoshino, who first hears a Miku song she has never heard before, and then encounters a version of Miku that she has never seen before. This new version of Miku needs Ichika’s help to reach others with her songs, as no matter how much she sings, she is somehow still unable to connect with them.
COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie is a co-production between Colorful Palette and Sega, with animation by P.A. Works. Hatsune Miku’s original voice provider Saki Fujita will reprise her role for the movie, alongside Ruriko Noguchi, also reprising her role as Ichika Noguchi from the original game.
Malaysian release dates for COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie have yet to be released. Follow GSC for more updates.
