Catch Oscar-Nominated Films ‘A Real Pain’ & ‘A Complete Unknown’ At GSC This February

GSC International Screens has teamed up with Searchlight Pictures to present an Awards Showcase of two highly acclaimed titles, A Real Pain and A Complete Unknown at selected GSC locations from 20 February and 27 February, respectively. Both films have multiple awards under their belts, including nominations for the 2025 Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars) and the Golden Globes.

We had the opportunity to attend an early screening of A Real Pain, which stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin as a pair of estranged cousins who reunite for a tour through Poland to honour their recently departed grandmother. One cousin is an outspoken free-drifter, while the other is quiet and practical, with their contrasting personalities lending a touch of humour that balances out the film’s more serious, dramatic elements.

The actors are the main highlight of the film, with outstanding performances that make this film worth seeing. Funny and touching, viewers are taken on an emotional rollercoaster as we gradually learn more about the characters, and begin to feel for them more deeply. The story touches on themes such as loss and generational trauma, as well as complicated topics such as the legacy of the Holocaust, which the film manages to incorporate without it feeling too heavy-handed.

Timothee Chalamet fans will also want to stay tuned for A Complete Unknown, releasing on 27 July as part of the GSC International Screens x Searchlight Pictures Awards Showcase. Directed by James Mangold, the film is a biography of the legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan (played by Chalamet), exploring the early days of his career and the profound impact he left on the music industry.

A Complete Unknown has been nominated for 8 Academy Awards, including Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Sound, Best Achievement in Directing, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. It was also nominated for Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) at this year’s Golden Globes.
