A new Gundam TV anime series is in the works, and it is titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (pronounced as “Geeku-akusu”). The news was revealed on Gundam info, the official Mobile Suit Gundam news portal, earlier today as well as during the Gundam Conference WINTER 2024 livestream.
The plot of the anime follows Amate Yuzuriha, a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space. When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.
Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is being co-produced by Studio Khara, who produced the Evangelion movie series, and Sunrise, who has worked on the Gundam series since the first TV anime series in 1979.
Not only that, Kazuya Tsurumaki who directed the Rebuild of Evangelion series will serve as the director, alongside series composition writer Yoji Enokido, and character designer Take, and mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita.
The voice cast for the three main characters of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX have also been announced. Amate Yuzuriha (Machu) will be voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa (Kumiko Omae in Sound! Euphonium), Nyaan will be voiced by Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa Ackerman in Attack on Titan), and Shuji Ito will be voiced by Shimba Tsuchiya (Shun Kazanami in Fanfare of Adolescence).
The TV anime series is scheduled to air in early 2025. Ahead of the TV premiere, a theatrical version with re-edited episodes titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- will screen in Japanese theatres on January 17th, 2025.
