First Look At ‘NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a’ Part 2, Airing This Year

The NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a anime will return this year for its 2nd cours, as revealed by the anime’s official website. The website also revealed a new visual drawn by character designer and chief animation director Jun Nakai.

The first cours of the anime premiered back in January 2023. However, the initial episodes experienced several rounds of delays on its production schedule due to COVID-19. All twelve episodes were finally aired by July 2023.

The anime is set in the year 11945 on a post-apocalyptic Earth abandoned by humanity. Earth has been occupied by aliens, who fight using an army of Machine Lifeforms. Androids created by humans fight against the Machine Lifeforms, with the conflict turning into a prolonged proxy war.

Androids 2B and 9S are sent down as part of a reconnaissance force to investigate local Machine behaviour and aid local Resistance forces. During their time on Earth, 2B and 9S suppress hostile Machine Lifeforms, coming into contact with other characters who exist in the world.
