For 16 years, World Cosplay Summit has united cosplayers around the world in Nagoya, Japan for an epic showdown featuring the best of the best. This weekend, Malaysia’s very own 2019 representative will be chosen to bring our country’s name to international fame.
Happening this Sunday, 30th June 2019 at IDEAL Convention Centre (IDCC) Shah Alam, Geek Summit will be hosting World Cosplay Summit, alongside a whole slew of activities aimed to enrich and encourage bonds between different cultures and nations.
Whether you’re there for the cosplay, to meet up with friends, or even build new connections in the industry, the organisers promise that there will be something for everyone. Here’s some of the things to look forward to!
Watching the World Cosplay Summit Malaysia finals
Representing Malaysia is no easy task, and five cosplay teams will be battling for that honor this Sunday! They are Team BananaChoco and Team Kuramaker from Kuala Lumpur, Team ExCurryBun from Sarawak, Team Rising Amoeba and Team Thousand Sunny from Penang.
With cosplayers from all over Malaysia, representing all different franchises, you can definitely expect an interesting show this weekend!
These five teams will be judged by our esteemed panel from all across Asia, consisting of HIKARI, MAYO&MIO from Japan, PTYTB from Vietnam, and last year’s World Cosplay Summit Malaysia representatives, Shinku and Dovah.
Meet makers & innovators at Innofaire
Take a peek into the work and lives of innovators from various industries through Geek Summit’s Innovation Talks. This series will feature a wide range of topics, from how to make your own tabletop game, to the intricacies of music production.
If you’d like to support local makers, you can also visit the Makers Booths throughout the day to support their craftsmanship!
Enjoy local acts & meet special guests
For those of you with cosplayers you admire, this may be your chance to meet them! Geek Summit has also invited cosplayers Hiko from Taiwan, Micho and Catnipx from Malaysia, and special performers Johan Yusof, Amelia Khor, Aya, and Starlight Sugar among others. Make sure to check the schedule for their stage appearances!
Get your game on with Infinite Carnage
Between the competition and talks, don’t forget to stop by the gaming corner for some gaming fun! Partnering with Infinite Carnage, GamesFusion, and Server DNA, there will be free to play video games running the whole day. This includes titles like Mortal Kombat 11, Samurai Shodown, Tekken 7, Beat Saber, and more!
