The final press conference for E3 featuring Nintendo has come and gone. With the release of their console the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo has been on a roll in introducing and promoting new, exclusive games on their console. Their E3 Press Conference did not disappoint in that regard as all of the games showcased is for the Nintendo Switch. So let’s find out what’s coming to their console in this conference recap.
1. Daemon X Machina
A new intellectual property from the studio Marvelous, Daemon X Machina was the first one out at Nintendo’s conference. The trailer is full of mechs battling each other in wastelands and futuristic cities. Gameplay looks smooth and seems to be inspired by older mech games like Armored Core. Aside from the awesome carnage, nothing much else is known of the game.
2. Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country
A new expansion for the highly acclaimed Role Playing Game Xenoblade Chronicles 2 titled Torna ~ The Golden Country was announced. The new game will explore the lore of Xenoblade even further as we travel to Torna, the birthplace of Jin. Expect this expansion to be released on September 14th 2018.
3. Pokemon Let’s Go! Pikachu & Eevee
While the Pokemon Let’s Go! titles were already announced and the game trailer shown, Nintendo revealed that the Pokeball Plus, which can be purchased for the game will now come with the Pokemon Mew. Like code-redeemed Pokemon in the core Pokemon games, Mew will then be a permanent addition to your party for your new adventure in Kanto. Pokemon Let’s Go! is set to be released on 16th November 2018.
4. Super Mario Party
Everyone wants one and everyone gets one. Super Mario Party is coming to the Switch and will feature previous party games alongside a lot of new ones. Innovative features can be seen from the game trailer as multiple Nintendo Switches can be linked together to create one large linked environment to create different views of the same party game. Motion control can also be seen prominently as players move their controllers to pedal bicycles in game. No release date has been announced as of yet.
5. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Months went by as we played Fire Emblem Heroes anticipating a new Fire Emblem title. Now fans of the series can rejoice as a new Fire Emblem title was announced at Nintendo’s E3 press conference. The trailer showcases new stories and new characters with what seems to be one returning character at the end of the trailer.
Combat system looks gorgeous with the same art direction as the previous titles and some improvements to the army unit battle system. Hopefully the game will be released in 2019 as announced.
6. Fortnite Hits the Switch
Rumored and now made true, Fortnite will be jumping into the Nintendo Switch! Oh yeah also its free and releases today at 10AM Pacific Time. A game that definitely will feel better running on a versatile console like the Switch.
7. Overcooked 2
The game that brought joy, frustration and break ups, Overcooked, is getting a sequel this August and will be available for the Nintendo Switch. The game trailer showcases some new features that will be added into the game like the ability to throw ingredients, but honestly, it’s more of the same Overcooked we know and love. An online and local area network play will also be added to the game.
8. Killer Queen Black
Killer Queen is an arcade game pitting 5 versus 5 players on a single screen that was released back in 2013. Killer Queen Black is a redesigned game offering a 4 versus 4 player mode that will be available for the Nintendo Switch and PC. The game will have an updated graphic design and have new features added to create a better and smoother Killer Queen game.
9. A Ton of Games are Coming to the Switch
Succeeding Killer Queen Black was the announcement of a ton of games to be added to the Nintendo Switch Shop. Games like Hollow Knight, Minecraft, Arena of Valor, Dragon Ball Fighter Z and heaps more were announced to be released on the Nintendo Switch at various dates this year. Nintendo is showing that they’ve definitely learned from their failings with the Wii U, and we couldn’t be happier.
10. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Finally, last but not least is Nintendo’s famous and well beloved title, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The rest of their E3 press conference showed an in-depth look into the title with the biggest announcement being that all of the previous characters appearing in Super Smash Bros. history will appear in Ultimate. I repeat, ALL previous characters, including longtime missing fan-favorite; Solid Snake.
The other announcement is that 8 player battles and some long forgotten stages will make a come back in the game. Characters and stages will be updated with new graphics, new techniques, new move sets, flashier Smash moves and better balancing. What’s more, new assist trophies and new stages will be added to the game.
Lastly, two new characters, the Inklings from Splatoon and FREAKIN RIDLEY from Metroid will be joining the vast roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. You might as well have called this the Smash Bros. conference coz there was so much fresh news on this title alone. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will hopefully be released on 7th December 2018.
Conclusion
Nintendo’s E3 press conference was short but pretty damn sweet. To be frank, I expected the next generation of Pokemon to be announced but I am content with the showcase of a new Fire Emblem title as many fans of the series were anticipating a new one for a long time. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was the main highlight for Nintendo and they did put it under the spotlight very well.
