The July edition of Shueisha’s Jump SQ has confirmed that Kazue Katō’s Blue Exorcist manga will officially resume serialization in the next issue, which arrives on July 3. Katō herself has shared that she’s already begun work on chapter 167 — though she playfully admitted to previously misstating the number as chapter 178.
Blue Exorcist follows the story of Rin Okumura, who has no knowledge of his true origins, until a fierce clash with his foster father reveals the devastating truth that he is the offspring of the demon lord Satan. Vowing to defeat his biological father, Rin enters the clandestine True Cross Academy to train as an exorcist himself. However, hiding his demonic heritage proves perilous, especially since unsheathing his father’s sword awakens the infernal power within him.
Katō first launched the series in Jump SQ back in 2009. It has experienced previous interruptions, including a hiatus from July 2021 until its return in May 2022. As of now, the manga has over 25 million copies in circulation globally. The series initially went on hiatus starting March 4 to give the team time to prepare as the story approaches its final stretch.
On the anime front, the franchise kicked off with a 25-episode TV series in 2011, accompanied by the Kuro Runs Away From Home OVA that same year, and later a theatrical movie that debuted in Japan in December 2012. The Kyoto Saga then brought a 12-episode season to television in 2017.
More recently, the Shimane Illuminati Saga premiered in Japan in January 2024. Its direct sequel, Beyond the Snow Saga (Yuki no Hate-hen), followed in October 2024. The Blue Night Saga, which serves as the second cour of this arc, launched in January 2025.
