A brand-new Evangelion anime series is currently in production, announced during the Evangelion 30th Anniversary Festival at Japan’s Yokohama Arena. The series will be written by Yoko Taro, best known for his work on Nier: Automata, with animation from Studio Khara and CloverWorks.
Although details on the new anime are still being kept under wraps, Yoko Taro’s involvement in the franchise is not entirely surprising. In a 2024 interview with IGN, he shared: “The work I was most inspired by is Neon Genesis Evangelion. I thank you for praising NieR: Automata’s story, but actually it’s pretty much just a retelling of Evangelion.”
Other creatives involved in the upcoming series are directors Kazuya Tsurumaki, who previously directed Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX; and Toko Yatabe, making his directorial debut after being a key animator on Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc. Music will be provided by Keiichi Okabe, best known for his work on the Tekken and Drakengard series.
