Godzilla Minus Zero, the sequel to the 2023 smash hit Godzilla Minus One, is set to hit Japanese theatres this November 3. The date coincides with the anniversary of the very first Godzilla film, which is often celebrated by fans as ‘Godzilla Day’.
The film will also open in North America on November 6, marking an unprecedented near-simultaneous release for the Godzilla franchise in both Japan and North America. Release dates for other regions are expected to be revealed over the coming months.
Godzilla Minus Zero is a co-production between Toho Studios and ROBOT, with visual effects from SHIROGUMI Inc. Following his success with Godzilla Minus One, director Takashi Yamazaki is also set to make his return as director, screenwriter, and visual effects supervisor.
The 2023 Godzilla Minus One was created as a 70th anniversary project for the Godzilla franchise, and has been credited with re-igniting global interest in the series. The film gained both critical and commercial success, becoming the first Asian production to win Best Visual Affects at the 96th Academy Awards, and surpassing $50 million at the US box office.
