The massively popular Chiikawa franchise will receive its first feature-length film adaptation in 2026. Titled “Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island,” the film is set to bring the fan-favorite “Siren Arc” to the big screen.
Created by illustrator Nagano, Chiikawa began as a series of comics posted on X in 2020, where it rapidly grew into a global phenomenon. The franchise has spawned numerous merchandise lines and collaborations, having earned more than 400 million views on YouTube through a short anime series that began airing in 2022.
The upcoming film will adapt the comic’s “Siren Arc,” which was originally posted on X between March and November 2023, where it frequently trended on social media as new installments were released. Animation will be handled by Cygames Pictures, best known for their work on Uma Musume: Pretty Derby – Beginning of a New Era.
Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island is slated for a summer 2026 release. Future updates will be made via the film’s official website.
