The Detective Conan franchise is turning 30! The 30th anniversary celebrations kicked off last year with a special exhibition, and will continue into 2026 with an hour-long TV special dropping next January.
The special, titled “Episode Zero: The Shinichi Kudo Aquarium Incident”, is a prequel set shortly before the beginning of the series. It will follow a pre-Conan Shinichi Kudo, who visits an aquarium with his childhood friend Ran, as part of a plan to reconcile her estranged parents. However, their fun time quickly comes to an end when a murder is discovered in the aquarium, requiring Shinichi to use all his skills to identify the culprit.
Detective Conan is based on a long-running manga of the same name by Gosho Aoyama, which tells the story of Shinichi Kudo, a 17-year-old high school detective who finds himself suddenly transformed into a 7-year-old child. Under the new name of Conan Edogawa, he sets out to solve the mystery of what happened to him, while also solving various criminal cases along the way.
