Ukrainian independent studio Twigames and German independent publisher Crunchy Leaf Games have announced that their narrative survival RPG Hollow Home will launch on Steam and self-publish on Xbox on January 27, 2027.
Inspired by Disco Elysium and This War of Mine, Hollow Home puts players in the role of Maksym, a 14-year-old boy alone in a city under siege, trying to survive. There are no weapons, no battles, and no combat. Instead, Maksym faces impossible choices and challenges no teenager should face—the weight of a life dismantled, the impact of war on those living through it, and the moral cost of every small choice.
The people Maksym meets can help him get through each day, and every conversation can change what happens next. Players must make choices and learn to live with the consequences, prioritizing, sacrificing, and deciding what and who matters most.
Inspired by Real Events
The game is inspired by the real events of the Russian invasion and the siege of Mariupol. Maksym’s journey begins on the last normal day he will remember—24 hours before the invasion. The city is still whole. When he wakes up the next morning, everything has changed.
“We started working on Hollow Home in the spring of 2022, a few weeks after the full-scale invasion began. At first it was our way to deal with what was happening around us. Making a game about the war while you are still living through it is hard, and there were weeks when it was hard to think about anything else,” said Valerii Minenko, founder of Twigames.
“We kept going because we want people around the world to see what this war means for ordinary families who stay in their city and try to get through one more day. Hollow Home was funded on Kickstarter in August 2026, where 558 backers took the campaign to 140% of its goal, we thank all of them.”
