Fans of Kamome Shirahama’s Witch Hat Atelier will have to wait a little longer for the anime adaptation. Animation studio BUG FILMS has recently announced that the anime adaptation has been delayed from 2025 to 2026 in order “to present the charm of the project at an even higher quality.”
Based on the manga by Kamome Shirahama, the story of Witch Hat Atelier centers around Coco, a young village girl who has always dreamed of becoming a wizard despite being born without magical aptitude. One day, a traveling wizard named Kiefley came to her village, and she happened to see him performing magic.
First published in July 2016, Witch Hat Atelier has since released 14 volumes and had over 5.5 million copies in circulation by July 2024. In 2020, the series also won the Harvey Award in the Best Manga category, as well as the Eisner Award for Best U.S. Edition of International Material — Asia.
The anime adaptation is currently being directed by Ayumu Watanabe (Ace Attorney, Doraemon films), produced by Hiroaki Kojima (animation producer for Komi Can’t Communicate), with character design by Kairi Unabara (Pokémon Evolutions), and music composition by Yuka Kitamura (Elden Ring).
